House of the Week: With incredible views, this LaFayette home was a ‘nice’ place to be during the pandemic - syracuse.com

NOTE: The owners accepted an offer on this home shortly before publication.

LAFAYETTE, N.Y. – Trisha and Casey Rotach moved into the contemporary home at 2708 Hitchings Road in LaFayette just about one year ago.

They did so to be closer to their jobs, not expecting that the Covid-19 pandemic to come along and change everything.

But there were worse places to ride out a pandemic, and the joyous birth of the couple’s first child, Norah, than the cozy three-bedroom house with a wraparound deck, in-ground swimming pool, and a walk-out basement with a cocktail bar, all set on a peaceful and tranquil four acres.

Besides the home’s location, it was the views of the surrounding countryside which first caught the couple’s eye.

“We can see the Carrier Dome from here,” Trisha said. “And can watch the sunrise from three sides of the house.”

With “tons of trees” between the house and their nearest neighbors and a long driveway leading to an “oversized” two-car garage, the home became an oasis during the pandemic.

During the summer, the private swimming pool area was a “slice of heaven.”

Trisha called the home’s interior a “bonus.”

The home’s “nice and open” floor plan made it easy to visit with family while social distancing.

The stunning great room, with beautiful stone wood-burning fireplace, has vaulted ceilings and several large windows which lets the natural light pour in.

The abundance of sunshine is especially appreciated by the family’s cat and dog, who follow the warm sunshine around throughout the day.

A “three-season room,” which Trisha jokes is misnamed because they use it all year, has windows on three sides and was used as a home office.

The spacious master suite is on the second floor. The bedroom has a walk-in closet and large wooden doors which open to let the sunshine from the great room flood in.

The walk-out basement, with access to the back patio and pool, is “mostly finished” and was used as an entertainment space by Casey and Trisha.

There is space for a full bathroom, exercise equipment, home theater room, game room, and a cocktail bar. Norah has her own play area there.

Trisha said it was their “escape from everything” area and they enjoyed having “movie nights” with a projector and screen.

“It has been a great place to live,” Trisha said.

After a year, the couple are moving. The four acres of property require a lot of maintenance while raising a newborn and, with the rise of working at home, the home’s location close to their jobs is no longer necessary.
