A car that crashed into a house in Prince George’s County in a hit-and-run incident on Friday night turned out to be an unmarked county police cruiser, the police said.
In the crash, police said, a gray Chevrolet Impala struck a house on Old Branch Avenue in the Clinton area at about 8:45 p.m. Friday. Based on a preliminary investigation, the police said, the cruiser had struck an “unknown” vehicle before hitting the house.
It was determined, police said, that the cruiser had been driven by an off-duty officer. After the crash, police said, the driver of the cruiser had left the scene.
On Saturday morning, police said, an officer turned himself in and has been suspended, pending an investigation of the incident. A statement from police did not name the officer.
It was not clear how much damage was caused in the crash.
