Teachers' group endorses Gailliard in state House race - Spring Hope Enterprise

From staff reports

State Rep. James Gailliard has received the North Carolina Association of Educators’ backing in his bid for a second term representing House District 25.

The association said it’s endorsing Gailliard, D-Nash, due to his advocacy for public education and support for human rights and equality.

“His lifestyle has been one of showing compassion to all people,” Martha Byrd, president of the Nash-Rocky Mount Association of Educators, said in a news release.

Gailliard is pastor of Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount and was elected to his first General Assembly term in 2018. He serves on the House’s K-12 education, education appropriations and health appropriations committees, along with the House Select Committee on School Safety.

“Thank you, NCAE, for this endorsement,” Gailliard said in the release. “I look forward to continuing to work with the NCAE leadership to advocate and legislate policies that are in the best interest of our educators, public school employees and everyone connected to public education in N.C.”

The NCAE is the state’s largest education advocacy organization for public school employees and represents active, retired and student members.

Gailliard faces Republican John Check and Libertarian Nick Taylor in the Nov. 3 general election.
