With high-end CPUs being in short supply, the Ryzen 7 3800X offers an interesting option for building a fast yet modestly-priced system – even if it's not AMD's latest-and-greatest. In this case, the 3800X offers 8 Zen 2 cores with hyperthreading, for a total of 16 threads.
The base clockspeed on the chip is 3.9GHz, but the chip can turbo as high as 4.5GHz – and indeed with most performance-focused motherboards it should be able to hold at its turbo frequency indefinitely.
You'll need an AMD 400 or 500 series motherboard with an AM4 socket to support this processor.
Finally, this processor does come with a stock cooler, via the inclusion of AMD's popular Wraith Prism cooler.
