Detroit Tigers: Brady House is the bronze medal of the options at three - Detroit Jock City

The Detroit Tigers have the third overall pick in this Sunday’s MLB First-Year Amateur Player Draft. The biggest question still remains: who will be selected when the team goes on the clock at three?

Frankly, the Detroit Tigers have plenty of options. A talent-filled draft with plenty of good gets in the top ten. It makes forecasting and mock drafting hard. There are three players that seem to stand out above the rest, but after that, it becomes a clouded field of exciting prospects.

One of those players who could sneak into the top three and be the Tigers’ choice is Brady House. Another prep player who has some intriguing upside and very well could be one of the players the team has higher up on their draft board.

The hope should still be for Jack Leiter at third or prep shortstop Marcelo Mayer, but there is always the chance that Tigers General Manager (GM) Al Avila goes out and surprises the fanbase with one of these other top ten ranked prospects sneaking up the draft board. If it’s a high-school pitcher that does it, it will likely be Oklahoma high-school standout Jackson Jobe.

The Detroit Tigers may be considering shortstop Brady House at third overall.

More from Detroit Jock City

The Georgia high school product has a lot to like, as do many of these top grouping of prospects. The Tennessee Volunteers commit likely going to be forgoing that to begin his ascent in the minor leagues.

He’s a 6-foot-4, 215-pound shortstop who hails from Winder, Georgia. The shortstop is smooth in the field, throws the ball well, and makes plays at the shortstop position. He’s got defensive upside and has plenty to like. The real tool to be excited about is his hit tool.

Looking at clips on Twitter, courtesy of Perfect Game USA, it’s quite easy to see why House is ranked as highly as he is.

It’s a pretty swing; he keeps his hands back as he gets his foot down and then drives through the ball incredibly well with exceptional bat speed.

With good feel for the barrel and a good ability to leverage the baseball, he profiles out as someone who could be a future mainstay at the hot corner. The thing that kept House from rising up in the draft rankings from where he started the 2021 season was a swing-and-miss question.

According to MLB dot com’s write-up, he “sold out” for the longball and learned the consequences that come with that. But, seeing his swing and ability to drive the baseball, there’s no reason for House to do that. If he can get back to looking for pitches to drive and collect extra-base knocks, there’s a lot to like.

If the Tigers reach lower in the rankings to draft House, it should not be considered as too much of a surprise. There’s a lot of names circulating the Tigers organization, and House is definitely one of them.

The thing with this pick is that House is not Marcelo Mayer, and he is not Jordan Lawlar. He’s the third-best prep shortstop on the board; if the Tigers are really looking at this route, House is a good pick, but…

There are better options out there. I would rather see the Tigers select a college pitcher instead of House. If Mayer goes one, Lawlar two, and the Tigers leave Leiter on the board, this fanbase should be furious.

However, it seems like Mayer or Leiter will be one and two in some capacity, leaving the Tigers with a choice. I think at that point, Jobe might be the pick, but taking House is like settling for a bronze medal.

All eyes on Sunday when the rumors can be put to rest for good.
