Digital Foundry, the experts in video game technology, posted its Cyberpunk 2077 analysis — specifically on how CD Projekt Red’s new game runs on PlayStation 4 and PS4 Pro — on YouTube Thursday. As the team says, and plenty more players have experienced, it looks “dire.”
In the video, Digital Foundry tested Cyberpunk on patch 1.02, which is where the game’s at for launch. It found that the resolution on PlayStation 4 stays around 720p, but can range up to 900p, with the game looking glitchy and blurry. Digital Foundry went as far as to compare Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation 4 to Nintendo Switch port — specifically with some of the problems The Witcher 3 had on that console.
The game does run better on PS4 Pro, Digital Foundry found, but the game still maxes out at 1188p. Cyberpunk 2077 dipped as low as 972p on PS4 Pro, too on their playthrough. As for frame rates on PlayStation 4, those didn’t fare better, with drops down to 20 frames per second. On top of that, Digital Foundry found stuttering and slowdown in the early hours of the game. Specifically, things are pretty rough while driving.
Digital Foundry noted that Cyberpunk 2077 looks totally different on Windows PC — that the experience was designed more for that high-end PC experience.
Cyberpunk 2077 have been reporting significant problems across platforms — crashing, weird NPCs, and choppy gameplay. There are also sillier bugs, like characters that can’t keep their penises in their pants.
