SAN JOSE — Firefighters were investigating the cause of a two-alarm fire Sunday evening in the city’s Little Branham-Rosswood neighborhood just south of Highway 85, authorities said.
Around 6:10 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls about a house on fire in the 4800 block of Basswood Court that appeared to be spreading to a next-door house, a San Jose Fire Department spokesman said.
Firefighters responded within minutes, upgrading an initial first-alarm call to a second alarm after neighbors reported a thick column of smoke rising from the site, and arrived to find a working fire at one home.
After putting hose lines in place, firefighters knocked down the exterior fire, cut holes in the first home’s roof to reach into its attic. That home suffered significant damage to the attic, garage, kitchen and living/dining rooms, while the next-door home saw smoke and water damage to its attic and a bedroom.
San Jose police also responded, providing traffic control, and an ambulance staged nearby but there were no reported injuries.
Four people were displaced by the fire, and Red Cross Bay Area staffers responded to assist them, the spokesman said. A cause for the fire was under investigation Sunday night.
