Bill to protect mobile home park residents clears House - 47abc - WMDT

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After a mobile home park on the Eastern Shore was told last minute that their rent would increase after the owner sold the park, Eastern Shore Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes has since stepped in to make sure something like that never happens again. Sample-Hughes tells 47 ABC her bill would require a mobile home park owner who decides that they want to sell their park, to give residents no less than 30 days of notice instead of five. She says the bill would also require residents to be notified at least 30 days beforehand if they’re rent may increase as well. The bill has already passed the house.
This all comes after a Florida based company that purchased Cedarhurst Mobile Home Park in Salisbury had increased residents’ rent without them having any idea that that would happen, putting many at risk of losing their homes.

“People should be able to know that they are not being taken advantage of and that’s what I saw through this company out of Florida taking advantage of these very citizens just going on all of the East Coast and this is one measure that we were finally able to put in place but then they’re certainly more work to do,” said Delegate Sample-Hughes (D-District 37A).

The bill now heads to the Senate floor where they’re expected to take a vote within the next couple of weeks
