CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The same winds that caused 10-foot waves off the shore of Cleveland Thursday transformed homes in Hamburg, New York, into ice sculptures.
The Hoover Beach neighborhood, south of Buffalo, was covered in feet of ice, frozen when water whipped up from Lake Erie, according to CNN.
By Friday, homes near the water were encased in ice and dripping with icicles.
Residents worried how the weight of the ice would damage their homes, reported WIVB. Last month, the The town of Hamburg wants to apply for federal money to install a breakwall in the town.
Last year, Hamburg homes near Hoover Beach were evacuated when winds pushed Lake Erie water from Ohio toward Buffalo, tearing up ice on eastern Lake Erie and shoving mountains of it into the neighborhood, the Buffalo News reported.
Hamburg also made news in 2016 with the “carcicle.”
But good news, Hamburg. Spring is on its way. The ice boom is being removed from the Niagara River today.
