The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the Great Lakes Restoration Act on Wednesday through 2026. 
Republicans and Democrats agreed to authorize more money for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
The initiative funds efforts to improve water quality, fight invasive species, restore wetlands, and is the prime source of funding for the Boardman River Restoration Project.
Both the Obama and Trump Administrations have proposed cuts to the initiative over the years.
Wednesday’s passage would expand the $300 million a year program to $475 million by 2024.
The measure now heads to the U.S. Senate.
