Update: Teen taken to hospital after Eastwood house fire - syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — A teenager was taken to a local hospital for precautionary reasons after a house fire in Syracuse’s Eastwood neighborhood this morning.

Firefighters were called to 506 Sunnycrest Road around 7:52 a.m. When they arrived, they found smoke coming from the back of the house and fire in the kitchen, Deputy Chief Jeffrey Kite said.

They searched the house for occupants and found a teenager inside a locked bedroom. The teen was evaluated by AMR Ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to the hospital. The teen did not appear to sustain any injuries, but may have suffered from minor smoke inhalation, Kite said.

Two adults and three children live in the home. No other injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.

The home is owned by Covenant Housing Corporation, a non-profit organization that provides housing to low-income individuals and those with physical, developmental or psychiatric disabilities.
