Firefighters carry man from two-story Tampa house fire - Tampa Bay Times

TAMPA — Firefighters battled a fire that engulfed a two-story house on Wednesday night.

Three people were inside the residence at 1011 E 23rd Ave. when the fire broke out at about 6 p.m., according to Tampa Fire Rescue.

Four fire engines and a ladder truck were dispatched to that address. They found heavy fire and smoke coming from the home and live power lines on the ground outside. Nine total fire units were sent to the scene.

Two women had escaped the house through a back window, fire officials said. One suffered minor injuries.

A man was still in the home and had to be rescued by firefighters. That person, whose name was not disclosed, was found unconscious and taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Eight dogs were also inside the home, fire officials said. Two were found dead and the rest were rescued by Tampa Fire Rescue.

The fire was declared under control at about 6:35 p.m., about 30 minutes after it was reported.

The 2,700-square foot wood-frame home was built in 1920, according to property records. The house received serious internal damage.

“It’s burned enough that I don’t believe the house will be remodeled,” said Assistant Fire Chief Mark Bogush. “It’s probably uninhabitable.”

The Tampa Arson Task Force will investigate the cause of the fire.

No other information about the fire was released late Wednesday.
