SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A vacant home on Fitch Street in Syracuse was engulfed in flames Wednesday night and the cause of the fire is currently being investigated, according to the Syracuse Fire Department.

The fire was called into Onondaga County 911 dispatch at approximately 2:36 p.m. at 147 Fitch St., fire department officials said in a statement.

The fire had to be fought from outside the house because of the deteriorating conditions of the house during the fire, fire department officials said. Power lines in the front yard of the house were burned through, according to the fire department.

After the the fire was knocked down, firefighters searched for victims but found none, officials said.

The cause and origin of the fire are still being investigated.
