House of the Week: Owner calls herself ‘faithful steward’ of Fayetteville’s ‘Sacre-Coeur’ - syracuse.com

FAYETTEVILLE, N.Y. – For this Valentine’s Day, it seemed only fitting to feature a home known as “Sacre’-Coeur,” or “Sacred Heart.”

The story about the house at 6849 Woodchuck Hill Road in Fayetteville is one of love between an owner and her dream house.

“We love our home,” Peg Kunz said of the two-story Cape Cod she had designed and built in 2007, “it was designed for our family and we know that someone will love it.”

She calls it a “privilege” to have had it built and calls herself a “faithful steward” to the house.

The home was almost 15 years in the making. Kunz, and her husband, patiently clipping photos out of magazines and keeping them in a binder. They also paid attention to designs they saw when they traveled abroad.

When they sat with noted local home builder, Doug Klepper, they knew exactly what they wanted for their dream house.

Outside, it was a Cape Cod-style house that blended in perfectly with the rest of the neighborhood, while the interior resembled what the couple had seen in Paris, a style that Kunz said would leave a visitor “awestruck in every room.”

Expert craftsmanship can be seen throughout the home.

Brazilian walnut hardwood floors are used, as are marble tiles by Roma Tile. Wall and ceiling paintings were done by Skip and Sharon Frost and the home’s great room features a Louis XV limestone mantel.

The construction was completed while Kunz was battling breast cancer and she attributes some of her recovery to “Sacre’-Coeur.”

“It was a great home to get well in,” she says.

Among her favorite rooms is the gourmet, state-of the-art kitchen, which features great windows, two magnificent granite islands, custom cabinets by Michael Terrione and appliances by Thermador, Wolf and Subzero.

“I love to cook and entertain there,” she said.

Kunz compares her master bedroom to the Mirbeau Spa and says it “is a great room to wake up in.”

A very special area is the music room, where her daughters played the cello and the piano for hours while growing up.

Despite the home’s classic appearance, it also has the latest technology.

Whole-house Wi-Fi, latest security system, Lutron lighting controls and a Teriktech sound system are just some of the latest technical features.

As part of her pledge to be a “faithful steward” of the house, Kunz said any potential new owner is getting a “very sound, well-designed” home.

“They may not like the paint,” she said. “But they won’t find anything wrong with the house. I feel proud about that.”

She says she feels the time is right to downsize and she looks forward to joining the rest of her family in the Nashville, Tennessee area.

Viewings of the house will be by appointment only for pre-qualified buyers. Contact realtor Robin Curtis for more information. Her information is below.
